Facing the side street, it has its own entry and a private courtyard, creating a sense of separation from the main home. To maintain privacy, the clients requested no windows facing the original house. Instead, we concentrated glazing along the garden-facing façade and introduced a series of skylights and transom windows to introduce natural light deep into the space. As a result we have two homes, each with its own relationship to the outdoors, and neither compromising on privacy.
