Our Process

We design highly considered homes through a calibrated process shaped by each client and site. Our work is grounded in clarity of vision, refined detailing, and technical rigor.

Begin

Each project starts with listening and observation. Through conversation and site study, we develop a shared understanding of how our clients live, what they value, and the physical, regulatory, and environmental conditions that inform the work.

Define

In schematic design, we establish a clear architectural direction. Spatial studies and early feasibility testing align design intent with context, budget, and constructability.

Refine

As the design evolves, ideas are sharpened and integrated. Detailed modeling, consultant coordination, material exploration, and planning coordination advance the project toward a cohesive, permit-ready design, with agency review and neighborhood interface managed with care.

Detail

Construction documents translate design intent into a precise and coordinated set of drawings and specifications, fully integrating materials, systems, and sustainability strategies.

Build

We support contractor selection and remain closely involved throughout construction, collaborating with the builder to ensure the work is executed with care through completion.

Sustainability

Verner Architects is committed to challenging our clients and ourselves to create quality environments that contribute to a more sustainable future. While refining our aesthetics, pushing planning codes, and testing creative solutions have long been the flag bearers of our work, we increasingly find ourselves looking to sustainable practices as critical elements of a comfortable home. This connection between the buildings we live in and the environment they inhabit brought about our pledge to the AIA 2030 Commitment in August of 2024.

From first sketches to final touches, Verner Architects’ mission is to explore sustainability as integral to design and to challenge our clients to think outside the box. Becoming increasingly active in our approach we are now making conscious design decisions which aid in not only our client’s wellbeing but also the health and future of the world in which we live – from strategies such as sourcing ethically harvested and certified lumber, encouraging adaptive reuse, taking full advantage of fresh air and sunlight, to specifying high quality, long lasting, and healthy materials.

Our work at Verner Architects is built on an ethic of thoughtful, targeted change aiming for large impact. With the 2030 Commitment, we strive to expand that understanding to a higher standard of sustainable living.
